infant baggage allowance

When traveling by airplane we need to consider the baggage allowance for ourselves, both cabin and checked luggage. But when traveling with children or infants, there are also specific allowances depending on the airline. Because this can be quite the headache, we’ve compiled a list of all the information you need to know about infant baggage allowances, including fees.

Ryanair

Infants: From 8 days to 23 months old. Infants up to 7 days old cannot fly.

Ryanair infant fee:

€20/£20 per one-way flight. The infant must sit on the accompanying adult’s lap. Extra seats cannot be purchased for infants.

Ryanair infant baggage allowance:

Cabin baggage allowance?: The accompanying adult is allowed an extra 5kg baby bag in addition to their own hand luggage allowance.

Checked baggage allowance?: No

  • Exception: One pushchair per infant allowed free of charge. Does not need to be pre-booked. Must be tagged for travel at the Bag Drop desk at least 40 minutes before flight departure and then will be placed in the hold of the aircraft at the boarding gate or aircraft door.
  • Infant equipment fee: €10/£10 per item (booster, cot, or car)

Children: 2 years and older are considered adults and must pay the adult fare for their own seat.

Remember!: The fare applied will be determined by the age of the infant/child on each leg of the journey. For example, if the child turns 2 years old for the return trip they must pay the adult fare even if they were considered an infant for the first leg of the trip.
