Recovery in Europe=Travelling
May 24, 2011
It’s a fact! Tourism has recovered from the economic crisis as there is an increasing number of Europeans travelling. According to a survey carried out by Eurobarometer, 68% of EU citizens travelled for personal reasons in 2010, while the figure was 65% in 2009.
The survey also reveals that more than 50% of Europeans organise their own holidays, particularly in candidate countries Turkey (80%), Iceland (79%) and Croatia (78%).
As for the destinations, Italy is the most popular for 2011 followed by Spain and then France. However, 23% of EU residents are still undecided about where to go on holidays this summer.
Among the reasons for travelling, 36% said that they are going away to rest and relax, while 18% for the sun and beach, and 17% to visit friends and relatives.
