Potsdamer Platz or Sony Centre: Potsdamer Platz is one of the most visited places in Berlin. It’s one of those places the Berlin wall used to touch and you can still see a few ruins. It’s the perfect place for enjoying a cup of coffee or watching a movie. At night the place looks beautiful and in December there is a Christmas fair where you can buy souvenirs and hot wine.(S-bahn: Postdamer Platz; or if you take the U-Bahn – Postdamer Platz)

If you want to try German specialties or the best of Berlin’s kebabs and hamburgers you must go to Burgermeister (Schlesisches Tor) and Mehringdamm. You have to arm yourself with patience, though, because there’s almost always a line.

I love Berlin! I lived for a while there until I had to go back to Milan to finish University. Behind Alexanderplatz, in the Rosa Luxemburg Strasse, you’ll find “Dolores” with it’s absolutely delicious (and really affordable) burritos.

To eat for €15 in Berlin… well, I had a “Kurfürstendamm” with fries and a beer in a small bar for €7.10. It might not be the healthiest choice ever, but I was the only non-German eating in this bar, which was cool.

In Rivelstrasse, there are different places where you could rehears with your band, then there’s a half-pipe in a factory and a climbing area. It’s a rather big place, its walls filled with detailed graffiti and there’s always a nice mood around, as for having a beer. In summertime, there’s also a Cinema there.

What a coincidence, I was in Berlin last weekend. A great Mexican restaurant is La Paz. The Fajitas, The Cuba Libre and Mojitos were huge! (Reason for which we drank a bit too many of the last.)

A nice place to visit, even thought any place is nice to visit at least once, is Sowjetisches Ehrenmal. A monument dedicated to the Red Army, in Terptower Park (the eastern area of the city). What surprised me the most was the majesticity and grandor of the statues. And, of course the number of soldiers burried here: around 5000 persons.

For those of you who want to know more about the history of the wall, I advise you to go see the Berlin-Nordbahnof (S-Bahn) station. There’s a small but interesting photo exposition which tells the story of the underground bunkers, the attempts to escape etc.

Skeletons and artifacts

The Pergamon Museum holds artifacts from the Mesopotamian civilization. I also liked the Natural History museum with its fabulous dinosaur skeletons.

Egypcian Museum

All the museums in Berlin are interesting, but the Egypcian Museum, the Berlin Wall and the Brandenburg Gate are the ones I’d recommend first.

Kreuzberg, the turkish neighbourhood, Bergmannstrasse, between Mehringdamm and Marheinekeplatz is the main street of the western Kreuzberg for going shopping (there are a lot of second hand stores) and getting in a bohemian mood. Tuesdays and Fridays from 12 to 18.30pm go to the Turkish market, Maybachufer.

I was there with my husband in December last year and i recommend the Michelberger Hotel, in Eastern Berlin. The metro and train stations are just in front of the hotel.
