We still live in a world in which vegetables are raised on large land surfaces, in which our artificial large bodies of water are almost always located on ground level and where parks are green oasis inside the concrete city that we visit from time to time. But what about balcony gardens, vertical vegetable planting and rooftop aquariums? Check out a few similar ideas we liked.

A dining room full of sharks

This render shows the future “atrium” of the new Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science in Bicentennial Park in Miami. The 250,000 square-foot-building will include a 600.000 gallon aquarium, a full-dome 3d planetarium, learning centers, cafes, gardens, fountains and even swimming pools. The $275-million musem building is expected to be completed in 2015.

A Modern Tree House

Hong Kong based Boutique Design has designed The Canopy, a residential tower that tries to bring  nature back into our daily lives. The 54 duplex units would have a 360 degrees glass facade that allows light in, while the 525-square-foot balcony gardens offer shade in summer.
